Creation of Adam. This fresco artwork (pigment applied to wet plaster) was painted onto the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican City, Rome, Italy, sometime between 1508 and 1512. It depicts the moment that God (right) gives the newly created Adam (left) his human soul via their touching fingertips. The artist was Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564), a Renaissance sculptor, architect, painter and poet.
