Description
Chinstrap penguin (Pygoscelis antarctica) with a pebble in its beak, showing the distinctive marking that gives the species its name. This penguin feeds mainly on krill and small fish. It inhabits the Antarctic Peninsula and nearby islands. Pebbles are used to construct nesting areas for their eggs. Photographed in summer on Half Moon Island, part of the South Shetland Islands off the tip of the Antarctic Peninsula.
