Description

Museum exhibit of braille printing plates. Metal plates were formerly used to print braille books and other materials for visually impaired people. Braille is a system of writing that allows blind people to access print. It consists of sequences of cells, each of which contains a pattern of raised dots that can be sensed through the fingers. Different patterns of dots represent letters, numbers, punctuation marks and even short words. Other technologies are now rendering metal braille printing plates obsolete.
