Description
Pimlico accumulator tower (right), London, UK. This structure, built in 1950, stores 2,500 cubic metres of hot water and supplies the surrounding Churchill Gardens housing estate with heat and hot water. It used to store excess heat from Battersea power station, located across the Thames, allowing it to generate electricity and store hot water in periods of low demand. The tower was upgraded in 2006 with the addition of a gas boiler that allows it to supply an extra 1,400 homes.
